Being a parent is the greatest experience a person can have. The joys of parenthood can sometimes be interrupted by the trials and tribulations of parenting children.
When parents split up, the children have to go somewhere and, frequently, that becomes the subject of intense litigation. Sometimes, child custody cases can be as difficult and as bitter as anything a lawyer ever handles.
In deciding custody, or Managing Conservatorship, of minor children, our courts are required to base their decisions on the best interests of the children. Naturally, each parent in a custody battle believes that he or she can provide the better home environment for the children. When the court has to make that decision, it considers a wide array of factors, including the relative stability of the parents, the impact of awarding custody to one parent on the child’s education and any special needs the child might have.
At Ratliff and Edwards, we know that nothing is more precious to our clients than their children. We welcome the chance to help them and their children when the issue of custody of those children goes before a court.
